Homemade Salsa Recipe

"Salsa"

Simple describes this mouth watering salsa. Using the simple fresh ingredients of tomatoes, cilantro, onions and Jalapeños will reward you with a tasty salsa treat.

Tomatoes are now eaten freely throughout the world as a very healthy addition to our daily diet. Today, their consumption is believed to beneficial to the heart. An excellent source of Lycopene, one of nature's most powerful antioxidants, is present in tomatoes and has been found to be effective in prevention prostate cancer.

The leaves and stems of the Coriander plant are called Cilantro. Widely used in Mexican, Caribbean and Asian cooking cilantro has a strong pungent taste. One you will either love or hate.

Onions are available in fresh, frozen, canned, and dehydrated forms. Onions can be used, usually chopped or sliced, in almost every type of food, including cooked foods and fresh salads, and as a spicy ingredient in your favorite salsa.

The jalapeño chile has a heat level that varies from mild to hot depending on the size and growing conditions of the plant. The heat is caused by the capsicin oil and is concentrated in the both the placenta and the veins of the chile.

Salsa

  • 3 large tomatoes, seeded & chopped

  • 1/2-1 teaspoon salt, to taste

  • 1 medium mild or sweet onion, chopped

  • 2 fresh jalapeño peppers, chopped

  • 1 tablespoon lime juice or juice from 1 lime

  • 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped

Mix all ingredients together.

Cover tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow favors to blend.

You can try adding 1 cup fresh chopped pineapple or mango for a delicious tropical salsa!
