Sue's Homemade Salsa Recipe
Let's kick Great Salsa News Blog off with a family homemade salsa recipe I have been using for over 30 years now.
Yes, I still have the yellow paper my sister-in-law Sue Macon wrote out for us years ago.
We make Sue's Salsa often and I have used both "fresh" and "canned" ingredients with delicious results...even though I will admit.. when using everything fresh from our own garden going into the salsa canning process creates wonderful results.
Thanks Sue for sharing this family treasured salsa recipe.
Sue's Homemade Salsa
- 8 cups tomatoes - use either canned or fresh
- 2 small cans tomato sauce
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 1 cup green chiles, chopped. (2 small cans)
- 10 small hot peppers chopped fine. NOTE: adjust the amount of chilies to your taste.
- 1 Tablespoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
Note: If using fresh tomatoes scald and peel of the skin then chop to your desired size.
Combine all ingredients and simmer until the onions are done.
Pack in hot sterilized jars and seal.
This will make about 3 quarts or 6 pints of Sue's Homemade Salsa.
Hope you enjoy it. We certainly do.
